Sister Lucille MacDonald
Entered: September 8, 1957 – Manchester, New Hampshire
Current Ministry: Local Coordinator in Vermont
Motto: Jesus, I Am Thine
As I reflect on the past 60 years, I see that I have had a journey of privilege. My life has been one of openness to accepting the movement of the Spirit within me, and today I realize I could not have planned my life any better. Like many of our Mercy sisters, I served in the ministry of education as a teacher and administrator. In 1980, I asked our leadership for the opportunity to serve those who are homeless in Maine’s Downeast region for a period of one year. Thirty-four years later, when I moved on from this ministry in 2014, I was grateful to the Community for the opportunity to have lived out my fourth vow of service in ministering to the suffering poor and deprived. In 2014, my journey changed again, and I was offered the opportunity to serve our sisters here in Vermont.
One of the highlights of my life was to experience the "Walking with Catherine" retreat in Dublin, Ireland, for my Golden Jubilee. To experience Catherine McAuley's presence and to discover her rich spirituality was so profound. The words in Catherine's Suscipe, “whatever you ordain or permit may be acceptable to me," have been what I have tried to live by.
