Sister Marlene Laliberte
Entered: September 8, 1952 – Cumberland, Rhode Island
Current Ministry: Prayer ministry
Sister Marlene Laliberte has had a full life as a Sister of Mercy. Her first ministry in religious life in Rhode Island was as a teacher at Our Lady of Mercy School. She then served at St. Mary Academy – Bay View, first for several years as a French teacher, admissions counselor, and curriculum developer for foreign languages (among other duties), and then as principal for 17 years. For a time, she was also in charge of girls who boarded at the school.
What came next was a dozen years as president of The Genesis Center, a multi-service agency that offers a range of services to immigrants, refugees, and low-income families. In this position, Sister Marlene did everything from directing an English as a second language program and starting a citizenship program to public advocacy and building renovation work. Service to the Rhode Island Sisters of Mercy as an administrative team member followed.
These days Sister Marlene tends to her various health issues with grace and prays for people in need.
