75-year Jubilarian

Entered: September 8, 1945 – Cumberland, Rhode Island

Current Ministry: Development director

Motto: Love is repaid by love alone

My first memory [related to religious life] is of telling my parents of my desire to enter the convent. They were not in favor, especially my mother, after she saw a film in which the nuns didn't have enough to eat. She worried I would starve, but after the first family visit, and seeing my weight gain, she worried no more. I have spent all of my 75 years in religious life as an elementary educator, many of them first grade. I loved seeing little children enter not knowing letters, and leave able to read and write little stories.

Preparing children to receive their First Communion was also something I cherished. I also enjoyed playing ball at recess. Several of us opened new schools, which was a challenge, but a great experience. My last [and current] assignment has been at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Taunton, Massachusetts, first as principal—another challenge—that enabled me to connect with families on many levels. When I retired as principal, after 31 years, I remained on as development director, where I still serve today. I enjoy being busy, and am grateful for all the ways I have been privileged to serve God these 75 years.
