Sister Mary Higgins
Entered: September 8, 1960 – Cumberland, Rhode Island
Current Ministry: Saint Jude Parish Community Lincoln, RI
Motto: Abide in My Love
Sixty years in Mercy—years of enrichment, challenge, some frustrations and much growth in mind and spirit. My years in ministry has been in parishes in both the Fall River and Providence dioceses. Whether as a teacher, principal, director of religious education (DRE) or pastoral minister, I found that each experience has enriched my life and touched my heart. I have fond memories and friends from the places I have been.
Presently I minister at Saint Jude's Parish in Lincoln, Rhode Island. This ministry is both rewarding and humbling, and continues to bless my life with the wisdom of both the young and the old. A blessing in the ministry is that it affords me the opportunity “to connect the rich with the poor”—in the spirit of Catherine's legacy of Baggott Street.
As I reflect on these years, my heart is touched as I recall the many blessings I have received in Mercy from students, parishioners, my Sisters in Mercy and the extended Community of the Northeast and beyond. Sixty years of Mercy is a blessing and a gift. What I have been given as a gift I pray that I can continue to share as a gift of Mercy!
