Sister Mary Jude (Arlene) MurraySister Mary Jude Murray

70-year Jubilarian

Entered: September 2, 1950 – Portland, Maine

Current Ministry: Ministry of Prayer and Presence

Motto: God Alone

I was born and raised in Bangor, Maine. After twelve years of Mercy education, St. John' s and John Bapst High Schools, I worked for two years in a finance company prior to entering the community in 1950. After my Novitiate, I was assigned to teaching in several of our schools on the junior high level for nine years. My superiors sent me to Bentley College and Suffolk University to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees respectively in business. After receiving my education, I was assigned to Mercy Hospital for many years. Then, beginning in 1980, I spent 20 years at Saint Joseph's College, where I taught and served as chair of the Business Department. I retired in 2000. Reflecting on my years as a Sister of Mercy, I am grateful to God for the privilege of serving Him and for serving with those who have blessed my life. I have been encouraged by many wonderful sisters, family and friends who have supported me during my 70 years in Mercy.
