Sister Patricia Combies
Entered: September 8, 1960 – Cumberland, Rhode Island
Current Ministry: Retired
Motto: To serve in faith and love
These 60 years have been unbelievable! At 18, I threw my lot with a group of women called Mercy. I expected to save the world by answering God's call. Instead I have had opportunities to meet the God in me, to discover the needs of the world around me, and, with women who shared this goal, to be Mercy and try to better the world.
All but six years of my ministry were in education; the other years I served in community leadership. All of it offered me challenges and support for my spiritual, intellectual, social and emotional being. I was privileged to work with and be inspired by women throughout the Mercy community. In my ministry, my first three years in second grade set the fundamental principle that as a teacher I would learn with my students. Community leadership was a humbling experience as I witnessed the dedication and determination of the sisters, associates and co-workers and their devotion to Mercy. The present Journey of Oneness and Critical Concerns offer another opportunity to clearly fulfill our mission.
