The Spirit Level: Why Greater Equality Makes Society Stronger 
By Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickeet, Bloomsbury Press, 2009
The authors show that greater economic equality -- not greater wealth -- is the mark of the most successful societies, and offer new ways to achieve it. They write that unequal societies are bad for almost everyone within them -- persons who are well-off and those who are poor. Also available as a YouTube presentation by the authors.

Pink Smoke Over the Vatican (58 minutes)
This film explores the controversial issue of women's ordination through the stories of women called to sacramental ministry. It chronicles the events that led to the June 2008 order of excommunication for anyone "attempting the sacred ordination of a woman," issued by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and shows how these faith-filled women are a gift to the Church.

NOT IN MY TOWN: Exposing & Ending Human Trafficking & Modern-Day Slavery by By Dillon Burroughs and Charles J. Powell, New Hope Publishers, 2009
This book features first-hand accounts and undercover interviews with victims, survivors and advocates for change to show the profits generated in the human trafficking industry and how many industries support and profit from it. It includes a chapter on how individuals and church groups can get involved in anti-human trafficking advocacy and support of victims, and includes a small-group discussion DVD and discussion guide.

Are Women Human? Violence against Women and Girls
This booklet from the Mercy International Association describes violence against women and girls around the world, with accompanying photographs of women’s faces, as well as provides suggestions for action. Half the Sky
by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, Alfred A. Knopf, 2009
This husband-and-wife journalism duo write about both overwhelming oppression of women in Africa and Asia and inspiring accounts of women who became advocates for others who are victims of human trafficking, wartime rape and genital mutilation.
Iron-Jawed Angels (124 minutes) 
This film tells the story of a group of passionate and dynamic young women, led by Alice Paul and her friend Lucy Burns, who put their lives on the line to secure American women's right to vote.
Interrupted Lives: Catholic Sisters under European Communism (58 minutes)
This documentary explores the experiences of women religious from Central and Eastern Europe who lived through forty years of atheistic rule. These sisters endured imprisonment, forced labor, deportation and exile.
