Local Social Justice Initiatives
As Sisters of Mercy, we are called to live out our fourth vow of service to those who are poor, ill, oppressed or uneducated in a time of unprecedented global economic, social and ecological crisis. This call challenges us to act in solidarity with suffering people and to confront our own oppressive behaviors and complicity with unjust structures.
Members of our West Midwest Justice team are actively involved in educating the public and policymakers about issues and activities that have an undesirable impact on the environment and on the persons we serve.
We draw the inspiration and the motivation to face these challenges from the Gospels and the tradition of our founder Catherine McAuley. The West Midwest Community justice team works collaboratively with our other Community justice teams to facilitate community response to our critical concerns by providing access to information and other resources, by collaborating with other justice organizations, by mobilizing for public awareness and corporate voice and by working to promote dignity and equality for all.
We invite you to join us in our efforts. Please visit this section regularly where we share issues of concern and link you to ways that you can help.
