Mothers & Others Provide Masks in Nebraska

Sisters, Associates, co-workers, and the media turned out for a send-off prayer service on May Day in Mercy Villa parking lot in Omaha  The event was in support of Mothers & Others: Advocacy for Detained Migrant Children as they traveled to Grand Island Hall County Detention Center to deliver over 300 face masks, chocolates and flowers.

Sister Ana María Pineda has been acknowledged as the founding director of the Óscar Romero Scholars Program. She was honored at the program’s 25th anniversary celebration on Nov. 2 at Catholic Theological Union (CTU) in Chicago. 

Sister Libby Leads Mercy Pedalers

Sister Libby Fernandez has spread the balm of loving concern and practical insight, over thousands of homeless men and women in Sacramento since she began as a volunteer at Loaves and Fishes in 1985. She was executive director there from 2006 to 2017 and that year her new mission became Mercy Pedalers.

Sister Rosemary Connelly Honored for 50 Years of Leadership

Sister Rosemary Connelly was honored August 25 for her 50 years of leadership as the executive director of Misericordia Home in Chicago and 70 years as a Sister of Mercy. Speakers included Sister Sue Sanders, Archbishop Blasé Cupich of Chicago, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin and Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka.

Sister Maurita Soukup Named Inspiring Member of Sigma Theta Tau

Sister Maurita Soukup was recently profiled as An Inspiring Member by the Sigma Theta Tau international Honor Society of Nursing. Her involvement with Sigma in particular began in 1975, when Sr. Maurita was inducted into Sigma’s Nu Chapter at the University of Birmingham. Maurita has served on many boards throughout Iowa and Nebraska. In her more than 50 years of ministry, she held critical care nursing positions in a number of Midwest hospitals; she served as adjunct faculty at several universities.
