The Rosie Schermerhorn Award is presented annually to an individual who has provided exemplary service to HACAP (Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, Inc.) in a policy-making capacity with involvement in the broader community on behalf of low-income people. The program collaborates with other community organizations over a nine county region.
Sister Susan, vice president of Mission Integration at Mercy Medical Center served on the HACAP board for two terms and as vice-chair over half that time. “Even before I served on the board, I had been greatly impressed with the outstanding work that HACAP was doing in the community,” said Sister Susan. “ My background is in social work, so I have a deep appreciation for the work being done on behalf of the less fortunate. HACAP is very well respected in the community so I was always proud to say I was serving on the board. I was very honored and surprised to receive the award.”
